Guyanese National charged with assault gets more time
SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - A Guyanese National was brought before the court of first instance on Friday charged with assault.
However this case of assault is not between strangers but in fact, a family members was the victim and he is still hospitalized as a result of the severity of his injuries.
Family Feud Leaves One Man with Severe Brain Injuries --- Sent to Columbia for Surgery.
SMNN - Cay Hill/Dutch Quarter:--- Relatives of Keshonarayan Kooblall (60) better known as Cyril are now praying that he would survive a brutal attack that left him with serious injuries to his brain.
According to Savita Kooblall daughter of the victim said, her father was struck on his head with a two by four plank on Monday night at a Union Farm residence. The young woman said her father went to the home of a relative to clear up some misconceptions when he was brutally attacked by a close relative she identified as Sundar Sahadeo. Kooblall said her father a Dutch national had brought in another relative from Guyana about a year ago for vacation but the man she said refused to leave the island. Savita said at some point the invited guest left her father's house and went to live at Sahadeo's residence in Union Farm and ever since then he has been spreading false information about her father.
Man accused of fracturing his wife jaw bone
PHILIPSBURG - One man is now behind bars charged with assault and causing serious bodily harm. The man for unknown reasons is said to have attacked his wife, hitting her in the face and fracturing her jaw in the process. [More....]
Stein: Criminal case in GEBE fight dropped
SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - Prosecutors decided recently to drop charges of vandalism against a woman for smashing somebody's rear windshield, because both women involved were at fault.
An altercation outside utilities company GEBE's Philipsburg office started with harsh words. Then the woman C.B. smashed S.C.'s Ford Explorer's windshield. S.C. then backed her SUV into C.B.'s Hyundai Elantra, damaging at least three other vehicles in the process.
Woman on Attempted Manslaughter Charge

Philipsburg: --- A family feud that went violent has landed a woman in police custody and is now facing attempted manslaughter charges. The woman has been identified as G.M from St. Maarten was held on Monday night after she tried to run over her brother with her vehicle.[More....]
Guyana’s former first lady speaks delivers rousing lecture
Although the event was not well attended, all present were moved by the courage and strength of former first lady of Guyana, Varshnie Singh. She was the keynote speaker at the domestic violence function hosted by the Peridot Foundation at the Philipsburg Community and Cultural Center. In spite of all odds and opposition from the highest authority in her country, Singh stayed the course in standing up for what she believed in and for the people she represented. Singh was married for almost a decade to the now Guyanese president, Bharatt Jagdeo. Their divorce was made public in 2007. [More....]

The Daily Herald - PHILIPSBURG--A policeman accused of assaulting his wife last week is innocent, says a woman with whom the officer has a relationship.
“He did not put his hands on her,” said L.H., who contacted The Daily Herald to defend policeman J. She said she was not exactly his girlfriend.

Guyana’s First Lady Shares Experience on Domestic Violence.
SMNN - Philipsburg: --- Organizers of the Peridot Foundation was obviously disappointed when only about 30 persons showed up to their awareness on domestic violence on Saturday night. Keynote speaker of the event was Guyana’s first lady Varshnie Singh. Singh on her first visit to St. Maarten read her public statement on her experiences about domestic violence even though she was the wife of the president of the Republic of Guyana. Varshnie Singh is also the founder of Kids First Fund which was established to help the poor and needy with health problems in her native country.
Police officer questioned
PHILIPSBURG - A police officer's wife filed a complaint against her husband alleging physical abuse last week, prosecutors said. The woman allegedly was assaulted and left badly beaten. The officer in question has been questioned.[More....]
