Police Union Advised Minister Not To Extend Contracts of Pensioners.

SMNN - Philipsburg: --- The Minister of Justice Magali Jacoba was advised by the Police Unions not to grant any contracts to officers who are scheduled to leave on pension. SMN News has been reliably informed that at least six officers, two of which are from the management team of the police force are scheduled to go on pension. The source said even though the police force on St. Maarten is grossly understaffed it is the opinion of the police union that officers currently in the force can do a better job than those in management and those officers should receive the necessary promotions to lead the police force.
Already Hildo Martina is on vacation and he is scheduled to go on pension on April 15, SMN News learnt that Martina sent in a request to extend his contract but his request it is understood went by the Assistant Chief Commissioner of Police Ademar Doran for an advice. Dafnis Francesca it is understood was asked by government to stay on the force, he is scheduled to be leaving on pension sometime in May 2010.

Pascal Morelle has to Return to Court--- Several Supporters Flocked Court House.

SMNN - Marigot: --- The court of first instance has granted the request of the attorneys representing Pascal Morelle on Thursday as he appeared before the court for arresting four minors illegally. Batonniers Derussy and Nicolas asked the court to grant them a postponement since they have not received the process verbal on the case.
The lawyers said that they needed to have the necessary documents to prepare a proper defense for their client. The defense lawyers said they made a request to the prosecutor's office since February 11 2010 and to date they have not received the necessary documentation. Prosecutor Jacques Louvier objected to the request of the lawyers saying the case is rather simple. He said his intention was to finish this case on Thursday however, after a short deliberation the court decided to postpone the case until March 18.

Robber Detained--- Illegal resident to be Deported.

MARIGOT—The gendarmes have detained a man for attempted theft on Tuesday. The man attempted to rob someone in the Marigot area under the threat of a knife the gendarmes reported. After an investigation it was determined that, the suspect is also responsible for three other armed robberies all of which occurred in the Marigot area.[More....]

SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - A number of store were broken into during the morning hours of Thursday on Front Street. Apart from the physical damage, the store owners suffered extensive loss as a large quantity of jewelery were stolen by the thieves who were seen running away from the scene wearing white sneakers.

Marigot:--- A demonstration is planned by several residents and supporters of Pascal Morelle on Thursday morning. Morelle is scheduled to appear in front of judge of instruction in Marigot charged with illegally detaining four minors who allegedly broke into his home at Orient Beach. SMN News learnt that Morelle's home was burglarized sometime earlier this year and he conducted his own investigation and detained four minors whom it is believed committed the robbery.[More....]

Track and Field Coach attacked in Middle Region

SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - Athlete and track and Field Coach Abdul Watley was attacked by an unknown person early on Wednesday morning.

Watley was brought to the St. Maarten Medical Center at 12:50am for treatment after suffering a wound to the back of his head.

PHILIPSBURG - On Wednesday, February 17, 2010, members of the cell VAMA, the police, assisted by Military police mobile squad 32 / 2 Toulouse, proceeded to arrest an individual, aged 24, who at the time was thought to be involved in two robberies recently. During the robbery in Marigot, the bandits used a knife to threaten the victims of their violent act. The investigations undertaken by the police led to confirmation that they were involved in other robberies as well.[More....]

PHILIPSBURG - The driver, R.F.G, from the car that was stopped by police on Wednesday February 10 holding 4 suspects of an armed robbery in Guana bay has been released by the judge of instruction this last Friday, his attorney Remco M. Stomp said. "Certainly it is suspicious if you are driving a car that is speeding from a location that was just robbed. Especially if the car contains a gun and stolen objects from the same robbed place only minutes after the crime, Stomp said.[More....]
