SMNN -

Philipsburg: --- Constant rumors around the island are linking a former police officer to one of the recent murders. SMN News has learnt that the officer was fired from the force over a year ago after he allegedly was involved in a kidnapping case. This media house understands that the officer was subsequently fired. SMN News on more than one occasion contacted Prosecutor Rienk Mud for a comment. Mud said on Wednesday that he would not confirm neither denies if the rumors have any bearing on any of his five murder investigations. SMN News also contacted Chief of Police Franklyn Richards who said he was not aware of the case. On Friday when contacted again on the information we are receiving, Mud said that he had no comment to make about the rumors. On Friday, we provided the name of the former police officer to Mud but he maintained that he had no comment to make. [More....]

Fired from the police force after allegedly being involved in a kidnapping case?

How interesting, and unsurprising par for the course. If this is indeed true, what happened to that case? What was the outcome of the investigation? Will our press demand to know?

Mr. Mud, as far as I'm concerned the record of the prosecutors office investigating crimes by police officers is mud.

There is a story in the Herald today-seems the ex-cop was suspended not fired.
What I find very disturbing is the fact that ever since Mr.Mos and Mr.Mud took over the Prosecutors office, they are managing that department as a closed office.
They don't confirm nor deny-that's all they keep saying.
I quite understand that they have to keep certain details secret until the investigation is over..but even as investigations close they don't reveal anyhting.
They might think they are doing the right thing..on the other hand... the perception is out there that nothing is being done and that people are getting away scot free.
Youngsters need to see and read in newspapers that criminals are being taken to court, that criminals are subject to sanctions.
This Mr.Mud should organize a group of students to sit in on a criminal court case and see that it is not a bed of roses.
Talking about court-Is there no security at the court house?
How did Mr.Hamilton, a former baseball legend walk into court with a handgun?
The court house staff better get themselves organized... a shooting can also happen during a family court case, a child abuse case, if Mr.Hamilton was not happy with the Laveist trial he could have pulled out his weapon and shoot whoever.
