HAITI - MEA CULPA

By NOSTRADAMUS - Posted on 13 January 2010

"Spring time for Hitler and Germany, Winter for Poland and France." The libretto from The Producers is well known. It embraces a culture to which the Vatican during the WWII remains devoted in silence. Given the awful human loss in Haiti, the Pope has very little to offer the many living catholic souls that are faced with desperation.

His immediate interest in surviving Haitian clerics and an historical diatribe belies a higher spiritual identification with the suffering and their families.

Where was the voice of comfort? Where was the action for hope and understanding?

Yesterday there was a terrible tragedy. An earthquake decimated thousands of lives in Haiti. And the Vatican remained silent.

Mea culpa?

If I throw a rock upwards over my head and it comes crashing back down on my head. Who do I blame? The Rock, gravity, or ignorance?
In that same light, who is to blame for the massive deaths in Haiti? The earthquake or the bricks and concrete that came crashing down on people? If you choose the latter, then who place these into structures without regard to natural law?

Well, some, if they lived to tell the tale might well thank God for not killing them. It's a good job we have strong and strictly regulated building codes and inspections here in SXM huh?

Flipper

Haha, isn't it great we've been blessed with such administrative excellence? I know one thing for sure now, to not ever put any trust in any building on the island in case of a hurricane or earthquake.
